Five Things to Do to Get Your Car Ready for Summer

Think your European car is ready for summer? Jackson Auto Repair recommends that you make sure before you just trust that everything is good to go.

Get the Battery Tested

Your car’s battery goes through a lot and getting it periodically tested helps to ensure that it’s ready for the heat that summer brings. When you get the battery tested, the technician should also test the alternator to make sure that they’re both working properly. It’s also a good idea for you to physically look at your car’s battery every month or so.

Take a Look at Your Tires

Your car’s tires are another item that can develop big issues before you expect them. Keeping an eye on how your tires are doing gives you a chance to spot potential issues and deal with them before they cause a blowout. Make sure to check the tire pressure and verify whether you’re up to date on wheel and tire services, too.

Check the Car’s Fluids

There are quite a few different fluids in your car that have to be checked periodically. Coolant, oil, brake fluid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, and windshield wiper fluid all have different needs. Some of these are fluids that you don’t want to mess with yourself, so have an experienced technician take a closer look for you.

Check All the Lights

This is probably something that you don’t think about all that often, but your car’s lights can go out without you being aware there’s a problem. You might think about your headlights, but you also need to check the taillights, brake lights, turn signals, and every other light on the car. If you do this at least a couple of times a year you can reduce the risk of having a vital light that isn’t functional.

Top up First Aid Supplies and Seasonal Emergency Items

Hopefully you’ve got a first aid kit in the car and at least some tools. But you should also have some seasonal emergency items. For instance, in winter it’s good to have blankets and hand warmers in the car. In summer, you may want to include items like an umbrella and an extra set of seasonally appropriate clothes. Also, swap out water and non-perishable food items if you’ve got them on board.
