Four Defensive Driving Tips for Your European Car

Defensive driving is the best way to avoid a collision in your European car. If you’re rusty on your defensive driving skills, Jackson Auto Repair has these reminders for you.

Never Assume Someone Else Sees Your Car

Your car is probably something to see, but that doesn’t mean that other drivers on the road are really looking. And that means that they can very easily jump out in front of your car or make other moves that defy the laws of physics, not to mention the laws of the road. Pay attention, because the other guy might not be paying any attention at all and you might have to be the one avoiding them.

Never Assume They’ll Do the Right Thing

Something else to remember is that you can’t assume that the other driver is going to do the right thing. Those other drivers may not use turn signals, give the proper right of way, or avoid tailgating. And if you’re counting on them to be doing the right thing, you’re going to be disappointed for starters. You’re also endangered if that’s your approach, so you have to assume that they’re going to do the wrong thing. You’ll be pleasantly surprised if and when they are driving properly.

Leave Plenty of Space to Get Out of the Way

A big part of defensive driving is to leave yourself plenty of room to get out of the way if you have to do so. If you’re bunched up with other cars and you can’t maneuver your car out of the way, you’re very likely to end up in a position where a collision is inevitable. And that’s the last thing you want to experience in your European car.

Don’t Try to Outrun Lights

You might have the horsepower to do it, but don’t try to outrun a red light. Yellow lights mean to slow down because the light is about to go red. It’s not an invitation to try to go faster. And if you miscalculate, you’re likely to end up in a wreck. It’s always better to avoid an accident than to have to deal with the aftermath.
