What Fluids Might Leak from Your European Car?

Your European car relies on an arsenal of fluids to run like the finely tuned piece of engineering that it is. Wondering what those fluids are? Jackson Auto Repair has a complete list for you.

Engine Oil

One of the most common fluid leaks for car owners to spot is engine oil. Engine oil is dark brown or black in color and if you’ve got a leak, it’s something you need to address as soon as possible. Running low on engine oil can lead to engine overheating and even to your engine parts breaking, which can absolutely destroy the engine.

Coolant

Coolant circulates through your car’s cooling system to keep the engine from overheating. Leaks in the coolant system can happen in a variety of different places, including the radiator, the water pump, and various different hoses throughout the engine compartment. Engine coolant is typically yellow or green in color, so it’s fairly easy to spot it on the ground.

Brake Fluid

Your brakes are essential, and without brake fluid you’ve got a big problem. Even a small leak of brake fluid can cause your European car’s brakes to be less powerful. Pay attention to the area around your car’s wheels and look for brown, greasy fluid. Also pay attention to how the brake pedal feels. If it’s softer than usual, that can be because of a brake fluid leak.

Transmission Fluid

If you’re spotting transmission fluid under your car, that’s not a good sign. It’s possible that you’re also noticing other issues with the transmission if you’re seeing a leak. Those problems could include slipping gears, trouble shifting, and hesitation as you accelerate. Ignoring those signs could lead to big problems with the transmission itself.

Power Steering Fluid

Power steering fluid is the lifeblood of the power steering system. Without this crucial fluid, the hydraulic system that makes steering easier fails and you might have big problems controlling your car. Power steering fluid leaks are most likely when the power steering pump itself fails.

Windshield Wiper Fluid

Windshield wiper fluid doesn’t sound like one of the essential fluids, until you get something on your windshield and can’t see. This is the fluid in your car that bears the closest resemblance to water. Your car’s engine won’t have issues if you spot a wiper fluid leak, but safety can truly be compromised if you’re not able to keep your windshield as clean as possible while you’re moving.

And there you have it. Those essential fluids are the ones you need to be most concerned about in your European car. If you want to make sure that your car’s fluids are in good shape, give us a call at Jackson Auto Repair in Jackson, TN and we’ll be happy to take a look at them for you.
