How ready is your European car for fall adventures? Not sure what to do? Here are some tips from Jackson Auto Repair to help you to get ready for fall.
Take a Good Look at Your Tires
How are your tires looking? It’s a good idea to check the tire pressure as well as verify that the tread looks good and isn’t wearing unevenly. Make sure that the tires themselves look decent overall, with no damage to sidewalls, either. If you’re close to needing new tires, get them now. You’ll have better grip when you need it most for wet and cold weather and you won’t have to worry about your tires during the colder months.
Double Check Coolant Levels
You also should check your coolant levels. In the colder months of the year coolant still functions to keep the engine cool, but it also lives up to its other name, antifreeze. As the temperatures drop, you want to make sure that you’ve got plenty of coolant in the car to protect the engine when it’s still cold as well as when it heats up.
Check the Oil and See if it’s Time for a Change
Refresh your memory about your car’s last oil change, too. It’s always a good idea to check the oil yourself in between oil changes to see if the oil levels are too low and whether the oil looks dirtier than it should. If you’re not sure how often you should get an oil change in your European car, that information is in your car’s owner’s manual.
Run the Heater for a Few Minutes
It’s probably been quite a while since you ran the heater in your car. So take a moment and let it run to see how well it’s working. If you find that the heater isn’t working well or isn’t working at all, you can do something about that now, before the temperature drops and you find that you’re shivering in your car when you could be toasty warm.
